วัดพันเตา เป็นวัดขนาดเล็กที่มีความเก่าแก่ ตั้งอยู่กลางเมืองเชียงใหม่ ติดวัดเจดีย์หลวง สิ่งสำคัญภายในวัดคือวิหารไม้สักขนาดใหญ่ที่ทรงคุณค่าทางประวัติศาสตร์ วิหารหลังนี้เดิมเป็นหอคำ หรือคุ้มหลวงของพระเจ้ามโหตรประเทศ ซึ่งเป็นเจ้าผู้ครองนครเชียงใหม่ใน ราชวงศ์กาวิละ ลำดับที่ 5 โดยพระเจ้าอินทรวิชยานนท์ ได้รื้อและนำมาปลูกสร้างอุทิศถวายเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2419
